Promotion Committee

Promotion seeks to improve the overall image of the downtown and the community through retail promotions, special events and image campaigns. Effective promotions change the public's perceptions of downtown and the community stimulating an increase in pride, interest and business revenue.

The purpose of the Promotion Committee is to develop a positive image of Story City and to create an atmosphere that encourages local residents and visitors to experience downtown. Main Street stresses that to market downtown effectively, promotion should cover three areas:

Special Events: created to bring folks to the community to enjoy themselves while introducting or re-introducing them to local businesses. Every special event should include music, food and something for children.

Retail Events: designed to make cash registers ring. Retail events can be discount related as well as non-discount. Main Street stresses non-discount promotion to expose customers to downtown businesses' goods and services.

Image Campaigns/Activities: change the negative impressions, reinforce the positive, and influence existing/potential customers. These events reverse negative perceptions of Story City and create a healthy image that stimulates consumer activity.

The Promotions Committee has experienced many successes in its first couple of years. This has happened because of the high level of energy and enthusiasm of those on the committee and others who volunteer to help see that projects and activities are successful.
