Velkommen to Story City's 44th annual Scandinavian Days, a lively summer festival celebrating our unique Nordic heritage, with food, music, and fun for all ages.

Our 2009 celebration, Scandi-Seussical Days, will celebrate our exciting traditions while drawing on Judge Story's Theatrical Troupe production of Seussical The Musical. The festival will be similar to the 2008 celebration, with most of our events taking place Friday and Saturday in the downtown and Sunday in the park. The Festival Parade (broadcast live on the Norsemen Network), crafters, kid's activites and food will all be centrally located. Our traditional Heritage Hall will continue to be featured at the Community Center on Friday and Saturday, featuring special Viking Village Age demonstrations. New this year is the Scandy Days Scramble, 4-person best shot Tournament on Friday. Our famous Festival Fireworks will take place on Friday evening.

Professional Storyteller Pippa White returns to Story City and will feature one performance of Stories of the Orphan Train on Friday and three performances on Saturday, including Stories from Ellis Island, As Far As the Eyes Can See (prairie stories), and Ordinary/Extraordinary (children's story).

Back by popular demand are the Inflatable Games and the Warbirds, remote control planes with 10' wingspan! Don't miss the STORY! Stage, Kids' Zone, and Heart of Iowa Classics Car Show. Story City's Bill Riley Talent Show competion will also be held on Saturday in the High School Auditorium.

Sunday returns to our Scandinvian Days celebration, with events at the park, including Vintage BaseBall, Disc Golf Tournament and JAX Outdoor Canoes/Kayaks on the Skunk River.

Story City History: Early settlers, primarily of Norwegian, Danish, and Swedish heritage, came to the Story City area in the 1850's. In 1855, Fairview, the original name for Story City, was platted and social and business activitity grew. In 1857 the town was renamed Story City after US Supreme Court Judge Joseph Story. Story City continues to celebrate the traditions of our earliest families with something of interest for every member of your family. As the diversity of our town grows every year, so do the entertainment and food selections of our festival. We invite you to join us for some old~fashioned family fun in celebration of our collective heritage.
